Moormann

Nils Holger Moormann in 1982, after studying law, became passionate about the world of design and decided, self-taught and far from the production logics of furniture companies, to develop furniture that showed a reduced formal language and very precise solutions in detail, synonymous with that current called “Neues Deutsches Design”.

Moormann’s main thoughts are simplicity, intelligence and innovation, which must be applied simultaneously for the well-being of society. The first goal is to analyze the needs in the light of new ways of living and working, which often and increasingly coincide within the same spaces; the second step is to identify concrete design solutions, simple, but not trivial, to solve all needs. Through this simple process, we arrive at the creation of solutions, initially dedicated to the idea of ??containing and tidying up, identifying a universal bookcase model, easy in concept and assembly, but extremely refined and elegant; a piece, like the following ones, out of fashions and trends, imbued with timelessness to become a cornerstone of design.

To achieve all this, it was necessary to identify the right place, where to work, design and produce the ideal pieces; and what better place to find the roots of this furniture if not between the raw mountain climate and the lively Nordic traditions, among the beasts of the fields and a heartfelt attention to the ecological balance? The mountain and natural place, far from the usual industrial districts and cities, has been fundamental for the creation and evolution of this philosophy. Of course, the whole project can no longer be achieved by a single person as in the beginning, but by a close-knit and convinced team, now made up of about 40 brilliant minds.

Moormann is not entirely easy to classify. It is not only Nordic design, which would resonate in a limited way, having many international designers within the team. Its aesthetics, although close to Finnish, Swedish and Danish examples, is more complex, the result of the union of impeccable technology and a careful look at attractive and sober shapes at the same time. The wood used for the whole collection is always the same, i.e. light birch from Alvarian memory, but also natural MDF, with a very ecological, but not poor effect, often combined with linoleum or laminates in absolute colors, white or black, sometimes red. The bookcase, interpreted over the decades in multiple ways and with countless variations, remains the main product of the collection, to which beds, tables, desks, containers and small accessories of great beauty and functionality have gradually been added.
